The United States of America, also known as the United States, USA, or the US, is a federal republic located in North America. The United States originally had fifty states, however, following its splintering into two parts in the aftermath of the September Attacks, it now only has twenty seven. Twenty six of these states are located east of the Mississippi River, and the twenty seventh, Texas, is an exclave separated from the rest of the country by the Allied States of America.

Government[]

The original United States government was almost totally wiped out in the September Attacks. Initial rumors reported that what remained of this government had regrouped and established a new capital in Albany, New York, but these were unfounded, as the actual capital was Columbus, Ohio.

Due to a lack of communication with those east of the Mississippi River, the current status of the government is generally unknown, however the United States retains its premier position in the global order, as evidenced by significant foreign aid arriving to the country, as well as the survival of New York City, the seat of the United Nations, which has occupied the Mississippi as a demilitarized zone between the rival United States and Allied States.

Currently, the United States is struggling to deal with the outbreak of a new illness known as the Hudson River virus, which has recently breached the Mississippi line and infected people inside the Allied States of America as well.

Military[]

As with much of the information about the status of the United States, the status of the military is unknown. The destruction of Norfolk, Virginia, an extremely important military port, implies that the projection ability of the country has been significantly hampered. However, it is believed that much of the United States' military forces from abroad have been recalled back to defend the homeland, implying that the United States may have an upper hand in any theoretical conflict with its western neighbor.

At the end of the series finale, Tyrants and Patriots, the former state of Texas, now an independent republic, received information that members of the Allied States government were responsible for the September Attacks, and so rejoined the United States as its twenty seventh state, and set the stage for a Second American Civil War.

-It is unclear how strong the United States military is. A few people think that U.S. Forces in Europe, the Middle East, Asia, and ect have come to the Eastern States. But if that is true, they would be more powerful then the Allied States of America. The National Guard Forces in the Eastern states are most likely helping towns and small cities stop disputes or perhaps they are protecting the border. With little fuel in the East, they probably do not have vehicles to the extent the Allied States have.
